We are always interested in talented individuals looking to carry out experimental research on rocks and other materials. We offer a unique blend of automated state-of-the-art equipment and completely customizable combinations of research apparatuses. Our focus is not theory, not computers but designing and executing experiments to measure new phenomena and properties. We typically carry out measurements at elevated and depressed temperatures, elevated pressures, combinations of axial, confining and pore pressures, varying saturation states, frequencies, strain rates, etc. In addition we offer the capabilities to conduct a thorough reservoir characterization and calibration where the controls on production or borehole stability for example are the object of a study. We embrace cross-disciplinary research in which new instruments, new software or new perspectives are developed through the mix of new talent. We are looking for self motivated individuals with well formed ideas concerning research directions. Our lab currently enjoys the support of 7 industrial sponsors which allows us to fund a limited number of graduate and undergraduate students. Research aid is awarded on a competitive basis.
If you are interested in working with us in the laboratory, please take the time to research a topic which is of interest to you and to submit a proposal for a research project and a brief resume. The proposal should: 1) state why the problem is important and needs to be solved; 2) provide a reasonable review of previous research related to the topic; 3) present a preliminary outline of how you plan to attack the problem; 4) describe how the facilities factor into your approach.
Proposals should be less than 5 pages in length including the bibliography.
